About Shamble Studio

Welcome to Shamble Studio, home of Ferry County Arts (nonprofit). My name is Lisa Ortiz and I have been a glass artist for 24 years and a creative dabbler in dozens of mediums all my life. Shamble Studio was born out of my desire to spend my time making art and interacting with fellow artists - and by "artists" I mean EVERYONE!
I envision Shamble as a space where the whole family can learn new skills; commune with other artists; create, sell, and purchase art! What it will become is up to US!
A Shamble is a concept that comes from the creative mind of author, Terry Pratchett, specifically in the book, Wee Free Men, the first of his Tiffany Aching series.
A Shamble is a tool and an art form my dear friend, Stephanie and I shared a love for. Stephanie was creative, boisterous, and larger than life for such a tiny person. This space is created in memory of her love and her life.
sham·ble /ˈSHamb(ə)l/ ~ noun
A Shamble is a homemade tool to focus intent & is most useful when one truly needs to see. Shambles are messy & made of items found in one’s pockets & surroundings like strings, twigs, feathers, beads, & often a live bit.
Come be a part of our creation!

How Does Shamble Studio Work?

The Shamble Model has 4 Elements
We are:
1. An open art studio dedicated for artists and creatives to gather, share, and learn. We have ceramics available during all hours for purchase with finishing and firing on site. We provide space for artists to work and host art workshops, community courses, and events. See our community calendar for upcoming opportunities and classes. Free events are able to use the space for only the cost of materials. Nominal fees for events which charge a fee.
2. An art gallery run by Ferry County Arts (nonprofit) featuring the work of 17+ local artists. At least three times yearly FCA hosts art openings including an annual "Young Artists" event highlighting creative works of our K-12 students in Ferry county beginning in 2027. If you wish to show/sell your art or hand-crafted products in the gallery, see Lisa. Artists are paid 75%. The gallery covers taxes and the commission is split 50/50 between the nonprofit and the venue (Shamble). If you are interested in working with the FCA Board, contact Lisa or come to a meeting monthly on the 3rd Saturday, 10am at Shamble.
3. A makers' space where the whole family can experiment, explore, and learn new skills. Bring your own materials and use the space for free or purchase materials and work on your creation while you are here. Purchasing a "base" on site avails you to all the Makers' materials and tools. Otherwise use of materials and tools are available for a nominal fee.
4. A gathering spot with cozy spaces to sit and work; meet; or host a writing group, speakers' tea, knitting circle, homework club, etc. We always have tea and coffee and perhaps some light fare.
We can host groups of up to 10 or 12 for birthdays, office parties, bachelor/ette parties, team building, etc. Catering (food, wine, beer, limited alcohol) is available for your small group event when scheduled in advance (alcohol requires a $25 catering license fee plus cost of alcohol).

Notes about Liability and Children

An art studio is an active place with various materials available - some of which are dangerous if handled incorrectly. Therefore all makers' space participants and anyone taking classes must sign a liability waiver (under 18 signed by a parent/guardian) before participating.
We LOVE kids! AND:
Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times for all activities. The glass (18+) and fine beading (14+) materials are age restricted with exceptions for certain classes. Children are welcome in most areas of the studio with their parent/guardian AND a signed liability waiver.
All participants must follow safety rules.
